Welcome to the world that is my mind. This trip should not last too long

Finally, I’ve got around to getting a weblog (ie. “blog”) together. Before I get into things, I’ll just lay down the rules for myself and for you, “Joe Public”. The purpose of this site is to provide an outlet for my thoughts and a location that family and friends can come and find out the latest “going-ons” in the lives of the Kekoc family.

This initial “blog” will be a short one, as I am not all too sure of whether it will work and would rather not waste too much time if it doesn’t. If it does work I “intend” to make regular updates of the blog and hope it will prove to be a useful point of reference for family and friends.

With all that said, here goes – TIME TO PUBLISH !

It Worked !!

Well, until I get some time to change the look of the page, the generic page will have to do.

First of all, well its not first really as this is technically the second post, but it is the first post that I’m doing with the knowledge that it will work…anyhow, I’d like to say Happy New Year to Everyone, especially my new son Michael, his beautiful sister and MY Precious daughter Tatiana, and my beautiful and loving wife Michele. I love you all.

Okay, so I should be in bed and trying to get some sleep before I go back to work after ten days off. Instead I’m online finding delightful sites such as
U2log.com – it’s a beautiful blog

So… nothing really worthy of comment, but nonetheless, it marked the first day of my blogging experience.

Here’s hoping I’m a little more dedicated to my blog in 2011 than I have been in recent years.

• celebrating 3 years of blogging, and 1 year of owning my own domain
• running the Australian Blogging Awards (aka the Bernies)
• celebrating the arrival of my 3rd child
• battling with the decision of whether to move from Movable Type to WordPress or TextPattern
• steering my daughter away from barracking for Collingwood
• stating how busy my life was, and how this kept me from blogging (things have only gotten worse in that area)
• complaining about Meg Lees, fascists, Medicare, unrealistic soccer movies (“Bend it Like Beckham”), and comment spam.
• Suffering my first bout of uveitis.
• Writing about other Melbourne bloggers.
• Writing stories about ellipses, and chickens slaughtered by a dog.
• Discovering that a computer program thought I looked like Eric Bana, Scott Baio and Johnny Depp (and a few others).
• Calculating a better/fairer indicator of Olympic success… which showed that Cuba was the greatest team at the 2004 Olympics
• Posting links to interesting sites.
• Moving to WordPress

Much has changed in 6 years…Life is busier, and I blog MUCH less…The post to interesting sites are now done on Delicious, with the occasional posting to twitter…The personal posts are all on Facebook…The political comments etc aren’t broadcast at all nowadays…So much has changed in 6 years…oh, how I’d love for blogging to be what it was back then…but it’s changed…so much is different now…We didn’t have delicious, twitter or facebook…well delicious existed, but I didn’t discover it until 2005.

Looking back at this, I’m once again reminded of the Bernies, and I’ve thought of reviving these numerous times in the past few years… perhaps this year will be the year I do it… perhaps.

How have these impacted my blogging?  Well, quite simply, they’ve provided quicker, easier, better targeted means of doing much of what I did with my blog in the past.

Facebook provides me an avenue to update family and friends with the latest news about the latest goings on in the Kekoc household, and doing so in a manner that I don’t need to email them when I’ve updated.

Twitter provides me with a way of recording random thoughts etc that I’m happy to share with the wider community.

Delicious enables me to capture and catalogue the many wonderful gems one finds on the internet on a regular basis.

Then there are all the other online applications I use on a regular basis… and while each have their strengths, they have weaknesses that make me quite reluctant to putting in much effort to cultivating my presence on these for much longer… but I’ll go into each of these in greater detail in the coming weeks.

I’ve decided that I’m going to make some changes here. I no longer have the time, nor the inclination to pontificate in writing and publish it here for the world to ignore. Not on any subject matter. I had ideas of turning this into an area that recorded my thoughts on logo designs etc… that didn’t eventuate.

So, I’m going to go down the photoblog option for this site. As a result, expect a site redesign in the next week or so.

Giraffe Casts a Long Shadow

Much of my online time of late has been spent at DPChallenge and I’ve been considering changing this blog to a photoblog.

Just thinking about it at the moment…

It seems as I continue to neglect this site… question is, will a photoblog fix that. Will this site give me anything I don’t get via my DPC portfolio, or my Picasa, Zoomr and Flickr accounts?

Need to think about this some more.
